Psoriasis Pustular - Types
|
There are 2 types of pustular psoriasis:
- Generalized pustular psoriasis – the psoriasis widespread over the body.
- Localized pustular psoriasis – the psoriasis is limited to just one part of the body.

| Psoriasis Pustular: Generalized |
The other name for this type of pustular psoriasis is Von Zumbusch Pustular Psoriasis. It is a rare type of psoriasis and very serious. It is been called Pustular because the characteristics of the raised bumps on the skin filled with pus. The skin under and around the pustules is red. So, when it appeared too many, they may redden your skin.
This psoriasis can happen regardless of race or gender. Mostly, it often attacks in older people with average age about 50 years old. However, children can also be affected but it is rare to see the condition in young children. |

Symptoms
For generalized pustular psoriasis type, at first the skin will appear fiery red and tender. At that time, you may feel a headache, chills, joint pain, fever, nausea, anxiety or discomfort, and loss of appetite. Within those hours, you will notice clusters of pustules start to appear on your skin. Within one day, the pustules will fuse, and then forming lakes of pus that dry and peel off. In 2-3 months, if the symptoms not being treated, hair loss can occur.
In young children, the common type of pustular psoriasis is the ring-shaped type. This type tends to become chronic or sub-acute, although the symptoms are less severe than generalized type.
The most common places that the pustules often appear are at genital area, anal area, and folded skin. It also may appear on the face, tongue, and under the nails. But, these are unusual. |

Causes
Commonly, generalized pustular psoriasis not yet identified the cause. However, people who having other types of psoriasis such as chronic plaque psoriasis may develop generalized pustular psoriasis.
The following matters can also be associated with the occurrence of the generalized pustular psoriasis:
- Infection
- Drugs
- Topical preparation (e.g.: dithranol, coal tar)
- Pregnancy

Psoriasis Pustular: Localized |
This type of pustular psoriasis either occurs on the fingertips or only on the palms / soles. It was very painful and difficult for you to do your daily activities.
For pustular psoriasis which occurs on the fingertips, it is called acropustulosis while for pustular psoriasis which occur on the palms or soles, it is called palmo-plantar pustulosis.
Palmo-plantar pustulosis is the most common. It can occur in people between the ages of 20 to 50 in general. Women are more frequently affected than men. When the person is in stress or infection, the palmo-plantar pustulosis will triggered. |
