Adrenal glands are sitting over the top of each kidney. Adrenal adenomas are not cancerous tumors of the adrenal gland. Usually in the outer layer of the gland, named the adrenal cortex. Adrenal cortex is in charge for making hormones that belong to the steroid family. When and adrenal adenoma produces hormones, it is called functioning normal, otherwise it is abnormal function condition.

Patients with an adrenal adenoma usually have no symptom caused by the adenoma. Most of the time the adrenal adenoma will disturbed the production of steroid hormones and can be detected during special test. The abnormality is the production of too much cortisol, a steroid hormone involved in the response to stress and energy of the Kidney. Adenomas that produce large amounts of steroid hormones which causes obvious symptoms. Large amounts of cortisol condition called Cushing's syndrome, too much aldosterone causes Conn's syndrome, and an abnormally high lever of male sex steroids causes acne and hair growth.

Adrenal Adenoma can be detected with MRI scan, abnormal urine test and blood test. It will show the adnormal size in the gland in the scan.

These Adrenal adenoma is called the Kidney's Yin deficiency. Each adrenal gland consists of two parts:

an outer ring - the cortex
an inner core - the medulla.

The two parts have separate hormone, Qi and Blood functions and control the Kidney's hormone system. Cortisol in the cortex is controlled by the hormone adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), which is activated by the pituitary gland at the buttom of the brain in front of the head which is also call the associated Kidney's Qi function.
