Hydrocephalus also known as “water in the brain” or ‘fluid brain’ where it is a medical condition which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the ventricles of the brain. Hydrocephalus occurs because there is a blockage of CSF outflow in the ventricles over the brain. The blockage occurs due to the congenital malformation blocking the normal drainage of the fluid, or from the complications of head injuries or infections. This problem will decrease the absorption of the CSF and at the same time increasing the pressure in the brain due to the enlarged ventricles. As the ventricles enlarged, the brain’s surrounding will become compressed and stretched. Thus, it can cause damage and life-threatening.

The usual symptoms of hydrocephalus problem are:

• Head enlargement
• Vomiting
• Fever
• Movement deficits
• Lethargy
• Irritability
• Impaired memory and learning
• Headache
• Changes in facial appearance and eye spacing
• Excessive sleepiness
• Difficulty feeding
• Seizures
• Developmental delays
• Always crying in high-pitched

Hydrocephalus symptoms for infants are:

• The scalp veins may be visible
• The “soft spot” on the forehead may bulge outward
• Eyes always appear to gaze downward

Hydrocephalus symptoms for elderly patients including:

• Loss of leg coordination
• Unsteady gait
• Uncontrolled urination

All the symptoms that mentioned above are depending on the cause of blockage, how much the brain tissue has been damaged by the swelling and also the person’s age.
