Nasopharyngeal carcinoma will spread in nasopharynx which is behind the nose and above the throat. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma located just below the skull base and slightly above the soft palates. It was formed inside the nasopharynx area where the back sides of the nose open until the above part of the throat. At the same time, ear canal will open up the throat.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma occur when the DNA cells mutates. This mutations will make the cells continue to grow and developing while the other normal cells have life-cycle. The accumulation of cancer cells will form tumors. The real causes of gene mutation that causing nasopharyngeal carcinoma are still cannot be defined yet even though the risk factor such as Epstein-Barr virus which is increasing the cancer risk already been defined.

There are 3 types of cancer and tumor in nasopharyngeal carcinoma which can be divided by 2 categories that is benign (harmless) and malignant (dangerous). Nasopharyngeal carcinoma can be detected at the early stages because this disease makes the patients suffer from nose bleeding. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is hard to find in western countries but it can be found a lot in Asia such as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and so on.
