Cerebral palsy is a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement, muscle tone and posture. It is caused by damage to, or differences in, the developing brain, usually before or around birth. Care is led by paediatricians, therapists and teachers, and each person’s needs are different.
How it can affect a child
- Stiff or floppy muscles, and difficulty controlling movement
- Delays in sitting, crawling or walking
- Involuntary movements or balance problems
- Some children also have speech, learning, vision or swallowing difficulties, or seizures
Core care
Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, special education and, where needed, medicines or orthopaedic support form the foundation. Early and regular therapy matters.
What The Tole can offer
Neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are offered as supportive care alongside therapy, not in place of it. They aim to ease muscle tightness, support comfort and sleep, and general wellbeing.
We do not claim to cure cerebral palsy or repair brain damage. Research on acupuncture in cerebral palsy is limited, and results vary. We use gentle techniques for children and talk with parents about each step.
Acupuncture and herbal treatment at The Tole
At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Master’s team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs and the family’s ancestral formulas.
You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

Common questions
Can acupuncture cure cerebral palsy?
No. Cerebral palsy is lifelong. Some families find acupuncture helps with comfort, muscle tightness or sleep, and we offer it as support alongside therapy.
Is acupuncture safe for my child?
We use fine needles and gentle methods and go at your child’s pace. Please tell us about any seizures, medicines and recent illnesses.
Can we continue our therapy programme?
Yes, please do. Treatment here is meant to sit alongside your child’s regular therapy and school programme.
See a doctor first if
- A first seizure, or seizures that are getting more frequent
- Difficulty swallowing or repeated chest infections
- A sudden change in your child’s abilities or alertness
- Before starting any herb alongside your child’s medicines

Traditional Chinese medicine is offered as a complement to, not a replacement for, medical care. We do not promise a cure or a particular result, and responses vary from person to person. Please keep your doctor informed about any herbs or treatments you use.
