Brain injury

A brain injury is any disruption of normal brain function. Recovery is different for everyone and usually involves a team of professionals.

Types of brain injury

  • Traumatic brain injury, caused by an external blow such as a fall, vehicle crash, sports injury or assault. Severity ranges from concussion to life-threatening injury.
  • Acquired brain injury, caused by internal events such as stroke, a tumour, infection or lack of oxygen.

What people may experience

  • Physical: headache, dizziness, vision changes, weakness
  • Thinking: memory, attention and confusion
  • Emotional: mood swings, depression, anxiety
  • Changes in mobility, work or study, and relationships

Alongside rehabilitation

Rehabilitation with doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists is central to recovery. Neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are offered at The Tole as a complement to that care, with no promise of a particular outcome. Please bring your scans and hospital reports.

How we work

At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Master’s team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs and the family’s ancestral formulas.

You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

See a doctor first if

  • A head injury with loss of consciousness, vomiting, confusion or a seizure. Call emergency services (999 in Malaysia)
  • A headache that is getting worse after a head injury
  • New weakness, speech problems or vision changes

Traditional Chinese medicine is offered as a complement to, not a replacement for, medical care. We do not promise a cure or a particular result, and responses vary from person to person. Please keep your doctor informed about any herbs or treatments you use.
