What is SLE?

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic auto-immune disease in which the body of people who suffer this disease makes blood protein abundance. Blood protein called antibodies by itself to respond to a tissue.

SLE is a chronic disease caused by the body’s immune system disorder or a network of cells and organs that act to protect the body from foreign invaders. The immune system will produce antibodies when it detects organisms that enter the body and these antibodies act to defend the body from infection attacks the organism. For those who suffer from SLE, the antibodies attack the body’s own cells. Any organ in the body of the patient can be under attacks, with different symptom.

There are three level of SLE :

  1. Mild SLE
    SLE at this stage is not too serious and are not life threatening. Most of those suffering from this disease have similar symptoms of skin problems and often suffer from fatigue.
  2. Moderate SLE
    Apart from inflammation in the joints and skin inflammation also occurs in the lining of the chest or the kidneys.
  3. Severe SLE
    In the severe SLE, the inflammation can cause damage to organ such as brain, kidney and lung. This can even be life-threatening.
What are the SLE Causes?

SLE occurs when immune system attack healthy tissue in the body. It usually appears that people with an inherited from parents for lupus may develop the disease when they come into contact with something in the environment that can trigger lupus. Some pottential causes include:

  • Sunlight
    Exposure to the sun can cause skin lesions of lupus or impact on the internal exposed parts.
  • Infection
    Bacterial infection or virus attack from outside can also cause lupus and may be repeated in some people.
  • Medication
    One cause of lupus is drugs. Some medications that can cause lupus are antibiotics, anti seizure medication, and blood pressure medications.
Symptoms of SLE

There are several symptom that may cause SLE :

  • Abdominal pain
  • Blood disorder
  • Blood in the urine
  • Coughing up blood
  • Finger that change color when pressure or in the cold
  • Hair loss
  • Mouth sore
  • Nosebleed
  • Red spot on skin
  • Visual disturbance
  • Swallowing difficulty
