AVASCULAR NECROSIS

What is Avascular Necrosis?

Avascular necrosis is a condition of bone tissue that dies due to lack of blood supply. In the early stages, avascular necrosis generally shows no symptoms. But over time, the affected joints will feel pain as they move. Then the joint will feel pain, even if the patient is just lying down. Pain that can feel light or heavy, the pain will feel heavier on the joints that hold the body weight, such as joints in the groin or buttocks. In addition, pain can also be felt in the shoulders, knees, hands, and feet.

The pain felt may increase due to microfractures or small cracks in the bones. This condition can lead to bone death and joint damage that develops into arthritis, and will restrict movement. Please note, the time span from the first symptoms appear until the patient has difficulty moving, varies with each patient, can be in a matter of months or more than a year. Symptoms can also appear on both sides of the body, such as on both thighs or both knees.

Causes of Avascular Necrosis:

  • Injury to joints or bones. Injuries such as joint dislocation can damage the surrounding blood vessels.

  • Accumulation of fat in the blood vessels. Fat can close small blood vessels and result in a decrease in blood supply to the bones. This can happen to people who use long-term corticosteroids or people who are addicted to alcohol.

  • Disease. Sick cell anemia or Gaucher disease, can reduce blood supply to the bones. In addition, other diseases that can cause avascular necrosis are pancreatitis, diabetes, lupus, and HIV / AIDS.

  • Medical action. Medical actions, such as radiotherapy, can weaken bones and damage blood vessels. In addition, the action of kidney transplantation is also associated with avascular necrosis.

Treatment for patients with avascular necrosis depends on age, the cause of the disease, the damaged part of the bone, and the degree of damage. To treat avascular necrosis in the early stages, therapy and treatment are recommended at The Tole Acupuncture that have generations of experience and now tailor made treatment for all types of disease patients to suite each condition and for the best recovery.
