The thyroid gland controls your metabolism. An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) slows things down, while an overactive one (hyperthyroidism) speeds them up. Thyroid problems are common, especially in women, and are diagnosed with a blood test.

Medical care comes first
Thyroxine tablets treat an underactive thyroid, and medicines, radioactive iodine or surgery treat an overactive one. Please never stop thyroid medicine without advice, and have regular blood tests.

His team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs.
Treatment at The Tole is used together with your medical treatment, to support your recovery. We never ask anyone to stop the care their doctor has advised.
You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

- Follow up. If you take herbs, we ask you to update us on your progress by email.

Can herbs cure thyroid disease?
No. We make no such claim. Treatment is thyroid medicine and monitoring.
Can I take herbs with thyroxine?
Some products affect absorption. Please keep a gap, and tell us your thyroid medicine.
Is a thyroid lump dangerous?
Most nodules are benign, but all need a doctor’s assessment and often an ultrasound.
